Client Crisp & Casual Bedroom Makeover

I have a new client who has come to the all too familiar crossroads in home ownership: love it or list it?! They have a five bedroom home tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac. It is an incredibly charming home with built-ins, a finished basement and an outdoor pool and living space that is a get-away all it's own. Sounds too good to leave, right? Their problem is useable space. A dining room that no one dines in and a family room that functions mainly as a toy room for their 18-month old twins. We are in the midst of coming up with a game plan for the main level that can accommodate the toys, home computers and family living space needed for four children ranging in ages from tweens to tots.

In the meantime, they've asked me to design a master bedroom oasis for maximum comfort and relaxation. For me, the most relaxing rooms are those that feel clean, uncluttered and crisp.

I started with light gray walls and crisp hotel bedding for a clean feel and then added crisp pops of color and gold accents for texture.

I recommended they add simple trim work to bring a focal point to the room.

I also recommended they mix up their furniture shapes by adding round end tables.

I looked at two lighting options for the room. Wall-mounted sconces such as these from Ikea and West Elm.

And hanging pendants to frame out the bed.

My client has existing bedroom furniture they would like to use. There is a matching bed, dresser & mirror (shown), tall dresser and end table in the room. I recommended that they have the drawer fronts painted on the two dressers and add new hardware.

And accessories for color and texture:

I'm so excited to see this room transformed for two very deserving parents. I'll show you renovation ideas for the master bath later this week!

Happy Day! {Erin}
