I have a pretty casual dining room right now. I have space to move the rectangular table I currently have into my kitchen nook to create more space to seat the "kitchen lurkers" (you know you have them)... So, I am excited to transform my dining room and style it after this modern, art deco, black lacquered dining room set my mom just bestowed upon me!! Yay Jeanne (that's my mom)!
Here she is... You can tell I am most excited about the chairs by the way I photographed the set, right?!
Now what's the plan, you ask?! Well first thing will be to change out fabric on the chairs to something more vibrant in color or pattern, not sure which yet! The furniture style is art deco but I am thinking I can pull off the look of these chairs with a Chinoiserie style, sometimes coined "Chippendale". What is that and how do you pronounce?! Luckily I am writing because I butcher the pronunciation every time and of course I will do better to just show you what it is since my vision for the dining room is still taking shape!
Chinoiserie is probably best recognized in these styles of chairs and mirrors which are all popular representations of Chinoiserie accessories.

If you want add touches of this style to a room without diving head first into the style, these accessories can be intermixed with a more eclectic look. But if you want to go even further into true Chinoiserie style (which I do, for sure...) then there are some very fun and bold patterns of fabric and wallpaper with even more of the Asian flare that makes this style so unique!
Love this wallpaper with the bold but solid upholstery! This color of green is to die for and the pattern is feminine and chic! Oh and lookie there, you all know how I feel about black baseboards and trim if you have seen my office! Love.
I am sure you have been seeing all the orange and hot pink pairings out now! Beautiful and feminine!

Oh and don't get me started on these next two!! I love the look of these classic Chinoiserie patterns in a solid, more subtle color scheme too! These both exude elegance and glam!

If wallpaper is too big a commitment or out of the budget this pattern is amazing as panels! I love this orange color! Beautiful and elegant. Modern and classic. What more could you ask for out of a dining room, right!?
Or what about some pattern on your chairs to pop the look?! This colorful pattern has made a huge impact in design lately. The colors are bold and modern but the pattern is classic. This type of upholstered armless chair would look awesome at either end of my new dining set to compliment the black lacquered side chairs!! Oh the possibilities!

I love this apple color fabric paired with the black. I am thinking that this color may be a perfect thought for my newly inherited lacquered side chairs?! What do you think?!
